We are up early every morning and I mean to get the car acked and get organised quickly each day and get more kilometres driven each day. However we are on holidays and we are taking it easy and so easily distracted by things of to the side of the road.
Yesterday we ended up at Streaky Bay beacause I needed to see water, so I made the detour. Today we went to the Great Australian Bight, it wasn't planned, but it was beautiful and I did see a whale!
We have passed through the halfway mark of Australia and the start if the Nullarbor Plain. I got so excited when I saw the sign, I'm really doing this, can you believe it!
Right now we are camping the night at the Nullarbor Roadhouse. So empty, but full of caravans, camper vans and camper trailers. The road trains park out the front. Behind the campground is part of the golfcourse that spans the whole Nullarbor.
It is going to be a cold night, it is the desert. Looking forward to what tomorrow brings xoxoTelksiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17652309237937097149noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3631626012457691103.post-47212106466953817182013-09-16T20:54:00.002+10:002013-09-16T20:54:44.546+10:00We are camping travellers "We are camping travellers" Zach has said this to quite a few people that we have meet on our travels and he's right. From Bendigo, we camped in a small country town called Ouyen, then we made our way to Mildura and had a cuppa with friends there.
We crossed the border into Sourh Australia and had to dispose of all our fruit and vegetables. In Renmark we bought some oranges from a stall by the side of the road, they are the best oranges I've had in years! We passed by the big orange in Berri, which unfortunately has closed down, but still we took a photo.
I'm loving South Australia, so many historic towns. I love all the old stone cottages and I love that so many are still being used, we have seen so many ruins as well. We took a random left and ened up at an old country pub, The Overland Corner Hotel, perfect place for an ice cream.
We ended up camping near The Murray in a town called Morgan. We checked out the old railway station, and walked around part of the town reading the plaques in front of the old buildings, though I think the highlight for Zach was being able to pet the pet goat at the petrol station.
I stopped so many times to get a photo of old windmills, I think Zach got sick of them, they are everywhere and so many look so rustic and quaint, I love it!
We drove past through such a pretty little town, it was Burra. And so chuffed I got a photo of the old homestead that is on the cover of Midnight Oil's album 'Diesel and Dust'
We drove through the windiest part of the world, I'm sure of it, it felt like my car was going to be blown away! Mount Bryan has a wind farm, one of the vanes is one display, I could believe how big it was!

I'm trying to load photos, but with difficulty, will try in the morning
We have had two two terms of school and now school holidays will start next week. However I have taken Zach out of school a week early and we are on the road to Perth . That means we will be crossing the Nullarbor. Yes I am finally doing this!
We are now overnight in Bendigo, in the morning for my birthday, we will go to the woolmills and go shopping!
Good night all, tomorrow will be a busy day for usTelksiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17652309237937097149noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3631626012457691103.post-6938529223348397802013-04-07T20:08:00.001+10:002013-04-07T20:32:01.584+10:00EchucaIt is our third and last night of camping in Echuca. We are camped in a very dusty, beautiful away from everyone campground. It's free, on the banks of The Murray a few k's out of Echuca. We went with friends, one friend came with her partner and her two girls, (the first two nights) first time camping as a family, they loved it! My other friend turned up yesterday afternoon, seasoned camper, rockclimber, biker, all round amazing woman, could only stay one night, but she spent the day with us today.
What a day, what a lovely weekend, our weather has been perfect! A touch of rain this morning, followed by a rainbow, as Zach said " it's so colourful!"
We went out today on a paddle steamer up The Murray. It had a wood powered steam engine and we even got to see the engineer load it up with firewood. Zach and all the other children on board got to steer the boat. Also we went to the miniature railway, yes I found one just for Zach! We had a few rides and Zach got to fill up the water tank of one of the steamy's, so pleased he was.
Yesterday the two of us had gone into town and looked at the railway station and the old steam engine parked just near it. We took many photos of the engine, the turn table and the old run down caboose. Zach wanted to climb into the engine and the caboose to have a look. No to the engine, it wasn't safe. No to the caboose, because someone had made it their home. I could see through the door, the blankets, bedding and few possessions there and I could smell the long term unbathed smell from them and I knew. I explained to Zach about some people not having homes and how they made a home where they could. Someone had made a home for themselves there and we had to be respectful and not go into their home and touch anything there. No matter that it was on public property. He understood and was very curious and perhaps a bit envious of who might be living in the caboose. Having a home is such a blessing.
We have really enjoyed our weekend away, tomorrow the big pack up and drive home. A few places we want to see, I don't think we will get to all, but we do what we can. Good night all xoxo

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Telksiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17652309237937097149noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3631626012457691103.post-33029012300550037172013-03-31T23:34:00.001+11:002013-04-02T08:25:59.172+11:00I ate a chocolate heartThe first lot of school holidays are here. The hot days are over. I am now waiting for the rain to heal the gaping cracks in my front lawn. The chooks are free ranging around the yard and I am waiting in anticipation for eggs, soon, very soon.
This Easter weekend I am busy, working four night in a row, three nights are usually my limit, but I have done a few shift swaps to have six days off next weekend. Zach and I are going camping in Echuca on the Murray river. I have bought new sleeping bags, that can handle -2 degrees. I tried them out yesterday after my night shift. Slept so well, they so toasty. So we will be right if it is cold next week. I love going to Anaconda when they have specials on, I love all the camping gear you can get. There is a few more things I want to get before our Nullarbour trip in September.
Zach has spent the last few days with his nana and pa in Gippsland. I rang before I started work, he told me all about the treasure egg hunt this morning and all the clues to find the chocolate eggs, he is having a marvellous time! I will pick him up Tuesday afternoon, do looking forward to seeing my boy!
Zach will be so chocolated out from Easter, I didn't buy myself any chocolate eggs this year, because I have given up sugar. So after my second night shift, when I got home, I had a chocolate craving like you wouldn't believe and I had no chocolate in the house, or so I thought. Rummaging through cupboards, I found super dark cooking chocolate that was to bitter for me and a milk chocolate heart. I haven't had chocolate for months and I devoured that chocolate heart in seconds. It was way too sweet.
Check out my latest knitting project, I hope I get it finished before we go camping. Beautiful pure wool, it will be very cosy. Of course after camping, we will have to go home via the Bendigo wool mills, not that I need more wool.
Hope you had a happy Easter xoxo
He calmed down as soon as I was gone. But I was stressed and needed a wee bit of retail therapy at the local opp shops. Oh, what treasures I did find!
I found some more apple plates, I collect this pattern, so pretty.
The last few days have felt like autumn, it has rained, what beautiful rain. In anticipation of the change of season, I bought wool, big thick chunky 16 ply bold red wool. The rain has brought out the urge to knit and collect more wool.
The dust on my car has been washed away, it will be back, I cannot keep my self from driving down dusty, hidden roads and seeing what's down there.
This chalk drawing from Zach has also been washed away, it was by the front door. So glad I took a photo
A bit hard when the weather is a bit extreme and you don't handle the heat very well and also nearly out of melatonin. Getting a new script tomorrow. Zach states he hates school and that he is allergic to it. But if you had seen him last year, you would think he was a different boy, we get to school, he carries his bag to class, walks in no worries and has even been sitting with the others on the floor at mat time. No tears or tantrums, such a relief.
Each weekend if I'm not working, we have gone out. Zach would like to stay at home and just play, but there is a whole big world out there. So out of the comfort zone we go.

We went to China town in the city, at Chinese new year. Waiting for the parade, with the crowds was pretty full on for Zach. When the lion dance started and all the fire crackers went off, he hid in one of the port-a-loos until the parade went further down the street. Then of course he had to show me how the port-a-loos flushed with a foot pedal, that was a highlight!
I was so proud of him, he did cope well, lunch time was so out of his comfort zone. We had a Thai rice noodle soup, the spouts and Thai basil and chili on the side. So impressed, we added all the condiments on the side to the soup and he ate, most of it.
We ended our afternoon at the national gallery, we had our hot chocolate and coffee in the members lounge.

A week later, I challenged him twice. We went to one of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra free summer concerts, to listen to some Beethoven, symphony no.2. We had some friends unexpectedly join us. They noticed the benefit of us going gluten free, Zach was so animated and talkative and understandable.
Our discussion on the way to the bowl. "Beethoven is dead?" yes he is, he lived a long time ago" is he in heaven? I think he might be. "he makes music for God" Yes he does, the most beautiful music you will hear" Beethoven's symphony no. 9 Ode to Joy, my favourite! I truly love Ode to Joy and I've booked myself a ticket to hear it later this year.
I was given tickets from my lovely little reds friend to go see an exhibition, fashion meets fiction. Gorgeous vintage dresses.
Zach was suitably bored, he tolerated being there, but only just because he had possession of the iPhone. Can't win them all.
We have been enjoying them. Zach and I went camping at the start of jan with friends at Badger Creek. We love camping. It was so nice to get away. Zach and his friends walked up and down the creek, looking for the crays that lived there. We spent a lot of time in the pool, Zach's favourite thing to do was jump into the pool, make a big splash, get out and repeat.
We went to Healesville Sanctuary, we got up close to echidnas and got to feed them. They are really the cutest!
We went to the old railway station in Healesville and Zach was so excited to see that they had an old steamy there. In major need of restoration, Zach loved it!
No campfires because of fire restrictions, we even had to delay going home because there were grass fires less then five kilometres from home. Next school holidays we will go camping again, it will be a bit cooler and we can sit around the fire at night with hot chocolates for sure.
Because of the fire warnings, I have all our photo albums and documents all packed, ready for if we have to leave. Some days we left anyway, just to hot to stay. We went to the city with a friend from work and her little boy. We headed to Fed Square and checked out this amazing woven house! My weaving willow friend would love this!
But it's not, sorry.
I was also going to write a post on the chicks that Zach and I got a few weeks ago and them growing up, but that won't be happening either.
I did work last night, I had a good shift. I got home at 3:30 slept until 7 this morning, let out the chooks went back inside, read all the 'happy new year stuff' on Facebook. About to back to sleep, big knock on my door. My neighbour 'A' was sobbing, I got so worried for her.

She was sobbing because her two dogs had got out and all my chooks were gone.
Disbelief, I went to the coop, I just saw all the still bodies. I could see two were still breathing, they went in our arms, I just couldn't do the neck wringing, so we just held them until they went.
I got a box, and A collected the others, one chicken was still alive.
She was alert and she might be ok, if she makes the next 24 hours, then I think she will be ok. She is in shock, she is drinking and being kept warm in the ensuite, I can hear her shuffling in her box.

I have a headache from crying and I am so tired.
I took this photo of some of my girls yesterday, they were seven weeks old. I loved that they would run out to see me.Telksiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17652309237937097149noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3631626012457691103.post-31991930100442373772012-12-27T15:48:00.002+11:002012-12-27T17:15:39.645+11:00the concept of SantaChristmas Eve is was just Zach and me. During the day we went and visited a house n Macclesfield, the owners had decorated there house inside and out to raise money for the Macclesfield fire station. We had an early dinner, opened presents, then went down to the Menzies Creek Station, where a lot of the Menzies Creek people were meeting for Christmas drinks and catch ups. So relaxing, meet new people in the area. Zach thought it was a great party at the station and just had to take his newest engine 'Luke' along.

Sometime in September or October, We were at Big W and Zach heads straight for the trains or the Lego to dream and imagine. He so wanted 'Luke' from 'Thomas and blue mountain mystery' I convinced him that could be a birthday or Christmas present. So left with relative ease, I don't want to buy toys every time we go out. The day after his birthday, he said 'you forgot Luke" Yes I did. I thought I have to get 'Luke' but I dread going to the shopping centres at this time of year, so many people, all pushing and touching, all hot and smelly, I hate it. I do not understand the attraction of the boxing day sales either, ugh! Well I was given a Coles gift card for Christmas from work, so a few days later at a Coles (where I never usually shop, too far) going down the aisles getting groceries, they have a small toy section. With some Thomas engines! Hello, there's Luke! and he is half price! I grabbed him and a friend and hid them under the potato flour. Zach found me in the next row and I was so smug. I wouldn't let him look at everything in the trolley, because I had a surprise for him.

He loved everything! Opening his board games "Oh Penguins!" So excited to get Luke and Sidney both Thomas and friend engines. Later after all the paper cleaned up and Zach playing, he says "oh mum, your so great" because he knows the presents are from me and I get all the credit.

Zach knows of Santa, he sees him on cards, out shopping, in movies. But I have never said hey these presents here are from Santa. He has just known that they are from me. When I was little, the presents were from my parents, I don't remember believing in Santa. I also remember other children telling me what they got from Santa and me thinking 'didn't your parents get you anything' then thinking maybe Santa is for those whose parents forgot or can't give anything.
Each year at primary school, we would pick a name and have to buy a present. I went to a primary school where most family's had dutch ancestry, so each year the presents would be delivered by St. Nicholas. Very exciting and each year was the question whose dad is dressed up this year. Though looking back some in my class wouldn't have wondered that, and really believed.

I also wasn't brought up with the Easter bunny. Chocolate eggs have nothing to do with Christianity so I never knew about the Easter bunny. I remember in kinder all of us children making little baskets and having to put them next to our bags and at home time they were all full of chocolate eggs. At the time I didn't ask why, I was five and had two older brothers. If I was given chocolate, I ate it quick. If I had asked my brothers on the school bus home why I was given chocolate, no explanation about Easter bunny would have been given I assure you. My brothers would have said that is to share with us and taken the lot. But I don't feel I've missed out.

Zach thinks Christmas is wonderful, he loves the lights, the tree, the presents, mumma baking shortbread. He knows that Christmas is about Jesus Birthday and that we go to Luna park for Jesus birthday. We actually go for my work's family Christmas party. There is as Santa there too, but Zach won't go near him.
Some people say I should make Zach believe in Santa, to make Christmas more magical and wonderful. I wasn't lead to believe in Santa and thought Christmas was such a wonderful and magical time. I know Santa doesn't make Christmas and I know if you the most bah humbug person ever, the sight of Santa doesn't help.
I hope you all had a blessed Christmas and were able to spend it with the one you love XOXOTelksiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17652309237937097149noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3631626012457691103.post-24851402438334031942012-12-23T21:38:00.000+11:002012-12-23T21:38:07.647+11:00Bigger than Ben Hur, then very low keySchool is over, as well as Zach's birthday. He turned eight. His party was a dinosaur themed party. We had a playdate the week before his party, I told my friend that I was so busy with Zach's party, she said "that's because you go bigger than Ben Hur with his parties" and I do.
It's back on with Dim and S, Zach talks about C, he is six. I said to Dim, if it is serious and if Zach is going to see them a lot, they might as well come to his party. They did, she seemed nice enough, but was really to busy to really chat to her.
And now it is nearly Christmas and it is a very low key event here. This year it is just Zach and me. My parents and one of my brothers live in Tasmania, my oldest brother is in Darwin and my youngest brother who lives in Melbourne, is going on holidays with his girlfriend. So it is just us and that is just nice.
We have done Christmassy things, we went to see the Myer Christmas window in the city. We went by train with one of Zach's friends. They waited so well in line to see the windows.
I put the tree up on the twelfth and have been putting one present under the tree everyday and we are opening presents on Christmas eve. He is getting so many presents because I buy throughout the year and hide at the top of the walk in wardrobe. I can't see what's up there unless I get up on a chair to look. Because of my bad memory, I have gone overboard again.
good night xo
Zach loved her. She was sweet. She died in November 2008. I was devastated, Dim had moved out a year and a half before that, but was still tooing and froing and coming and going. He was wrecked about her dying as well.
He dropped Zach off at child care, then picked Bessie up from the vet, brought her home and dug a hole for her to be buried. He didn't want Zach to see Bessie dead. Zach was nearly four.
Four years later Zach still asks about Bessie whenever the topic of death comes up. I told Zach that Bessie was dead, explained as best I could, he didn't understand until a year later when both guinea pigs Sophie and Louise died. When he saw what dead was, and that they were being buried, he wanted to know where Bessie was buried. A few times he tried to dig her up, he wanted to see her. He never tried to dig up Sophie or Louise, I think because he saw them dead, he saw them buried, case closed.
Friday night I discovered Inky the Siamese fighter was dead, sunk at the bottom of his bowl. Zach howled and wanted me to call the fish hospital. We left Inky in his bowl that night. That night we talked about what happens at funerals. I said people say prayers and talk about the person who died, usually nice things are said. Zach liked that.
Saturday morning, we found a little box, put in some cotton wool, a bit of fabric, laid Inky inside, then another bit if fabric on top off him. We were having visitors that morning, so the funeral would have to wait until the afternoon. Zach took pride in showing a dead Inky in his coffin to our visitors. Zach wanted a tombstone, so I found a big flat Pebble from the garden and wrote Inky with red nail polish on it. Zach wanted numbers on it, but no room for dates.

He choose a spot under some flowers for the burial site, daisies.

I dug the hole, put in Inky and covered him up and Zach put down the tombstone. I asked Zach "did you want to say anything, like Inky was a good pet" he did.
He said "Dear God, Inky was a good pet, in Jesus name, Amen." I like it, he combined eulogy and prayer, Mr Efficient.
The next day he asked again about Bessie dying. I asked him if he would feel better if we gave Bessie and the guinea pigs tombstones, yes he would. So I found a few more stones and wrote their names on them. First to the area by the front door "Dear God, Bessie was a good pet, in Jesus name, Amen"

Then to the back courtyard "Dear God, Sophie and Louise were good pets, in Jesus name, Amen"

I asked Zach if he felt better because we gave our pets tombstones

"Yes" then he went off to play in the toyroom

I think the ritual of a funeral and saying good bye is needed, sometimes even for a fish named Inky

Telksiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17652309237937097149noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3631626012457691103.post-3588580371468169492012-11-01T01:56:00.000+11:002012-11-01T01:56:05.800+11:00Spinach and RitalinSome days I crave something sweet. I haven't had anything sweet since the 16th of August, I quite sugar after Zach's major dental work. I've replaced sugar with dextrose which is only glucose and not as sweet as cane sugar which is half glucose and half fructose. Fructose is the baddy for teeth. So the last few nights at work, I've had a cappuccino with chocolate on top, I haven't had that in ages and it was so so yum.
Zach had a paediatrician appointment first week back at school. I talked about Zach's concentration and getting him to focus on his school work. Doctor talked about Ritalin. Big deep breaths and major internal panic. That is not what I want for my child.
I spoke with Dim, it's not what he wants for his child either. I know someone whose child is on Ritalin and she talks it up, but I am not convinced. Of course I wikipediaed Ritalin and not good.
I also googled gluten and autism, I had talked about going gluten free a few years ago and Dim was very reluctant to deal with that. But now he is totally on board and Zach is on a gluten free diet at both houses. So I am gluten free too, I think it will be just easier if we both go gluten free together. So I've been googling recipes, I've made gluten free pizza and it was great! Found rice bread at health food shop and it is good toasted and Zach is eating it. Will see how it goes. Have also discovered amazing gluten free bread at The General Store Cafe in Emerald, I can buy the mix and make it myself! Zach's last gluten meal was this cake that I made for a friends little girl. She turned three and was so excited to eat the ladybug.
So amidst all this diet changes, Zach has been expanding his food choices, we had Mexican the other night, with real corn tortillas and spinach, I hate chopping up iceberg lettuce so I bought a bag of spinach leaves. Zach ate the tortilla with the spinach and then ate more spinach from the bag. Of course I can't convince him that spinach is not from Mexico.
I got a bit down, my car's rear window was smashed just for the hell of it. Nothing was stolen and it put a dent in my week big time. But I recover.
I have been rejuvenated by all this lovely weather that we have been having. My garden is looking great, I have been getting out there, and I am making a spot for my chook house and new chooks, next week I think, still deciding what sorts of chooks. Isa browns are good and decided to convert an old cupboard into a coop.
My avocado tree was covered in tiny flowers, could mean that I am in for a bumper crop this year, peaches next door are full of cute, tiny, furry peaches. Jane said I could have the fruit, poached peaches in marsala with vanilla cream, looking forward to that.
I meant to write nearly every night, but I fall asleep so early. So last night, as I ate some double chocolate ice cream that I made the other day, I wrote and tonight adding in all the photos.
We totally enjoyed these school holidays. Zach went for a few days to his dads house in the first week, grand final weekend Zach and I went away for two nights and Zach spent a few days at his grandparents the second week.
The first week when Zach was at his dad's house, I was at a bit of a loss of what to do. I went for a long walk to Emerald and back. I stopped at a friends who I hadn't seen for more than two years. She is amazing! She had her divorce all settled a few years ago and is now renovating her house herself with the help of her four children. She decided to achieve her dreams for the place and stop waiting to do that. So I am inspired by her. I went there for dinner when Zach was at his grandparents.
For most people it was grand final weekend, but Zach's team Richmond tigers weren't in the finals, so it was go away weekend for us. We went to Kilmore. We went on the miniature railway, we were going to go to the tram museum, but on a whim I asked Zach if he wanted to go to the big strawberry. He did, so it was off to Koonoomoo for us, then we zigzagged our way back to Elmore and went on the miniature railway there. Discovered that there is a mini railway in Echuca, so a trip to Echuca this summer I think.
I always think of September as 'My month' because my birthday is in September. I have definitely made it my month, my last blog was at least two weeks ago and looking through my photos, we have been busy.

I had a birthday, no party. When I change decades, I'll have a party. But Zach and I did go out for breakfast with some wonderful friends at a cafe. I was given flowers and fabric! I love flowers and fabric! Zach and I went to a playground, swings and climbing, fun.

I had that whole weekend off, so on the Saturday, I said "Zach lets go to a little island"

It was the best day, we had breakfast at Cook's Corner, I love that place!

On our way to the island, questions like "are there Komodo dragons?" "are we going to Komodo Island?" We went to the Alfred Nicolas Memorial Gardens, I thought it was the first time that I had taken Zach there, but as we walked through the gardens, I had faint memories of taking Zach when he was maybe three years old. I was very unhappy then and don't remember much of that time, it is such a blur. Zach remembered the gardens and knew how to get to the islands.

We spent a few hours at the gardens, I took so many photos. Zach played with his dinosaurs, the stegosaurus floats. We had such a great time checking out the place. I'll remember this time.

When we left, I thought lets keep driving. Up the tourist road we went, to this quirky little place, Kalorama Kitchen. All the furniture and crockery is recycled and the menu is a photocopy glued to cardboard. The floor is uneven, I'm sure that place needs restumping, but it is open. Years ago, when I drove past, the place was shut, I thought abandoned. So good to be able to get a good coffee, even in the remotest part of the hills. Great views here too

Zach's dad dropped him off at 3:30 today. I was so tired, so I had a coffee while Zach played with Lego. I saw out the window the neighbour mowing the lawn. I thought lets go make the most of this sunshine! Five minutes outside and I felt so awake! Decided to tackle the lemon tree out the back, it was covered in black spot and needed a good prune, I know it should have been done at the start of winter, but I'm usually a season behind when it comes to my garden.
The few nights we have forgotten to leave a note for the tooth fairy, explaining that his two teeth are at the hospital. So we have done that tonight, the nurse at the monash gave us a note, it is in a little bag under Zachs pillow.
Hope you have been enjoying the sunshine!

And I remembered when I was a child my grandparents (my mothers parents) would visit from The Netherlands and stay for a few weeks. My mother hated peeling potatoes and had read somewhere that the most nutrients were just under the potato skin, so she would just give them a good scrub and rinse.
The first night my grandfather looks at his plate and says "What! are we in the war!" So for the rest of their stay we ate peeled potatoes. You see they lived through the second world war and lived in the city, for part of the war my Pake (my mums father) was in a work camp, when he was temporarily released and was told he would be called to go elsewhere, it was without his Id papers. So for the rest of the war he was hiding and couldn't legally work. My Beppe was a wreak by the end of the war, the negative landlady would tell her everyday "Jan is dead, I'm sure of it, you might as well find yourself a new husband" Each meal was uncertain and nothing was wasted.
My dads parents lived in the country on a farm, so they had better access to meat and veggies, but still nothing was wasted. When the farmers in that region were told they had to give their wheat crops to the Germans and not keep it for themselves, they burnt their crops. My grandparents did help people hide, on their way to another safehouse, these people took risks and life was hard.
My dad was born after the war, he remembers his father coming into the kitchen everyday before lunch and peeling enough potatoes for the family, (my father was one of eleven children) any visitors and all the hired hands that would have lunch with them. The war was over, they were blessed and life is not so tough now, that they had to eat potato skins.
Yesterday Zach went to hospital for dental work, I was anxious about the cost, even though I have extras cover. I worried about so many things, other bills, do I have enough milk, must remember to stop off at chemist for child nurofen, must make sure it's strawberry flavoured.
When I was chopping up the pumpkin and cutting off the skin and removing the seeds, I was thinking what a hassle, but I don't like tinned soup. Then I started peeling those potatoes, I stopped to think, I have a job, I have access to dentists, hospitals, medicine, schooling, supermarkets, electricity, entertainment even. We are blessed, life is not so tough, that I need to eat potato skins and I think my Pake would be happy with that.

Now I am going to enjoy my pumpkin soup, my baby put himself to bed at four and is still sleeping, not fully recovered, but all went well. Thank you for your prayers, Goodnight all x♥x♥Telksiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17652309237937097149noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3631626012457691103.post-53269022881845532112012-09-05T22:41:00.001+10:002012-09-06T06:24:29.486+10:00Shooting starsTomorrow Zach is going to get a lot of dental work done. A few fillings, his adult molars sealed, a tooth pulled and his teeth all cleaned.
A few weeks ago we tried to have the fillings done, we got as far a getting only a little of the local anaesthetic in, hysterics from your baby because the needle hurts is so upsetting.
So it was recommended Zach get all the work done under a general, because even if they could get all the needle in, Zach has to be still and not be bothered by all the dental work going on. I can't stand the sound of the drill and I don't have sensory issues, so it would be a major trial for Zach.
So tomorrow we are going to hospital for all the work to get done. The anaesthetist rang just before and went over a few things, we talked about keeping him calm. She had a nice voice, that so put me at ease.
Only problem is he is booked in for 12:30 so no food after 06:30, he doesn't even wake up until after seven. So I'm setting the alarm and will feed him some breakfast while is he is still probably half asleep.
I'm worried, I'm not sure how Zach will react to it all. He is seven, nearly eight, but he is my baby.
At dinner he asked "shooting stars are for wishes?"
"yes Zach they are"
"if you wish to be a anaconda, what would happen"
"I don't know Zach"
"I think it would work"
He has such faith that wishes on a shooting star would work, so I need to have faith everything will be ok. If I look back at my life, everything has always turned out ok.
Pray it all goes well, xoxo
I am so excited, flowers are springing up everywhere and I so need to see flowers. The other day on a walk , Zach and I looked at all the flowers that were blooming. I showed him jasmine, I love that scent, daffodils are everywhere, rhododendrons are starting to show, we smelled daphne, I love that one too. My lemon tree is full of bright cheery yellow lemons that I keep giving away, I am so glad spring is here.
The last few weeks have been worrying , dentist and other appointments for Zach, but more on that another day. I am so glad spring is here, last night at work I was practically counting down to spring. Did I mention my birthday is in spring, I don't really like getting older but I do like having a day all about me! Lunch somewhere with friends will be nice.
I am on the train to work again, I like people watching, while I am knitting. There is a girl wearing a singlet, flexing her arms showing off to her boyfriend how big her muscles are. There is a guy wearing headphones, reading, occasionally he looks out the window and smiles, there is an older woman looking very studious, reading too, soon this train will get fuller as we get closer to Melbourne. So interesting , people are.
Hope you all enjoyed your first day of spring today! xoxo
It was fun, Zach had fun too, he had a few other kids to play with.
I started chatting with one of the mums later in the day, her two oldest go the high school and she homeschools the younger four children, I think she is amazing to do that. I'm assuming she must be so organised.
Her second youngest was playing with Zach and they so clicked even with a two year age gap. She was even making plans for Zach to visit. I'm like 'Whoa, let your mum work out when is best' I talked to her mum, she says 'that's the problem with homeschooling, they don't get enough social interaction' So we worked out, when I think Zach is due for a mental health day off school, we will visit. I love that Zach has made a new friend! and me too!
I was going through my photos the other day and discovered Zach took photos at Irish dancing. Cheeky Boy!
Today I went to a Irish dance class, I was invited by my cryptic crossword friend, She is very good! It was fun and on Mondays that I'm not working, I think I will be dancing. Zach can sit and watch or play on his ipad. Before the class started, he wanted me to turn down the ipad volume so the dance teacher wouldn't get upset by the noise. He dosen't realise the hard dancing shoes drown out everything.
Very excited, today I also got the program for next years concerts for the MSO (Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) starting to choose which ones I'll go to.
Also looking online at whats on in darwin, I told my mum "just go and book tickets if you want" I've decided to book four weeks leave in the middle of next year for my Nullarbour trip and book tickets for the train on the way back. more time to save and also allow more time and go up to Alice as well and go see the red center too! plans and dreams
I am so nice and tolerant, Dim had left my spare room full of his crap since he moved out. I had asked him occasionally to pick up stuff. Now telling him. Sunday he picked up four huge garbage bags full of clothes and two boxes of stuff. He is a horder and was a bit overwhelmed by how much stuff he had left behind. The room still is chockers but he has started! What will I do with that room? more plans and dreams
Good night all xoxoTelksiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17652309237937097149noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3631626012457691103.post-7045784877468958042012-08-03T20:06:00.000+10:002012-08-03T20:06:02.369+10:00guilt f@#$*n guilt!my parents have travelled to Darwin, they are visiting my oldest brother there. I have never visited Darwin and I haven't planned to in the near future either. I just got a text from the parents telling me to pick up my nieces from Brisbane next school holidays in September and take them to Darwin for the holidays and accompany them on the plane back to Brisbane when the holidays are over. the way it is worded is asking, but I know they telling.
I know my brother would like to see his daughters and Zach does like his cousins and I do have annual leave those school holidays and my brother hasn't seen his daughters since Christmas, Guilt F@#$%*n Guilt!
You see I had plans to go camping across the Nullarbour with Zach, just him and me and maybe a friend from work, on the open road, no constraints, no plans, freedom. Wildflower season, Whale watching, Treetop walk (maybe, heights freak me out!) Wave rock, Open road, No constraints!
But now, I am being guilted into spending my holidays with my brother and my nieces, I can't spend every day with them, they are very high maintenance girls. I want to be a tourist not a babysitter!
